Nelsons:

Pictures taken By :Portraits by Andra

I loved helping my cute friend Jules style her family photos.
I hope it helped make it a little less stressful...

I've mentioned my love for Navy and aqua.. Super stunning in these pics as well.
I love how the neutral base, and subtle pops of color accentuate their faces.

Thursday Family Photo Tip

Texture:

image via JCREW
I know I've talked a lot about color, and what to wear color wise. Today, I wanted to mention texture...I love to add a ruffle, a tweed jacket, a feather, lace, leather, metal, chunky scarf, or even a big beaded necklace... anything that isn't just plain cotton, and mix different textures. It helps make the photo pop, and not seem so one dimensional.

I love this family photo, the hat and the tweed jackets are fab...

chunky cable tights, and RUFFLES with wool... so much texture it looks like you can grab it!
and love the feathered skirt, with the lace, and metal belt accent..

Thursday Family Photo Tip

I Love this family photo! The colors are so fresh and fun for Spring, and no one is wearing the same color!!

Tip:

Where to take pics...  The background is not the most important subject of your photo, so keep your location simple. I love how the background in the photo above is beautiful but blurred so you focus mainly on the family..
Many cities have beautiful parks and natural settings, but don’t forget about your backyard.  Other fun settings are fences, front porches, and even on your master bed – which might be a lot easier for your kiddos to just be at home!

THURSDAY PHOTO TIP...

{Warning!!!}: the following post may make you want to have a baby... which isn't necessarily a bad idea.. although remember you don't get to sleep anymore... just sayin....

Since I've got "newborn baby" on the brain, I thought I'd post a few of my favorite newborn pics. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of props. I think it's cute, I just prefer simple poses of these precious little babes so fresh from heaven.

And these below are all by my talented friend Brittany of Brittanygphotography.com who just might be coming by today to snap pics of my little Goldie Jane.. )I'm a {LITTLE} EXCITED about that!!!!

Thursday Family Photo Tip

Having family photos taken and not sure where to even begin?? Check out this great blog {Creature Comforts} They have an entire section of color stories that I think would be great when looking for ideas on what colors will blend well together in your family photo.

Here are three of my favorites for Spring...

Thursday Family Photo idea...

Want a cute Valentines Day Card Idea??

1st: take 3 different photos of your kids holding a blank poster or sheet of paper...

2nd: add words using photoshop or other photo editing programs.. *if you don't know how to do this you could have your signs already made with the words on them when you take the pics*

3rd: print photos,  and use glue to frame each photo with cardstock,  cut a paper long and wide enough that when folded accordian style, it will hold your three framed pictures..

4th: decorate with ribbon, doilies,  or whatever else you like.. and.....

TA DA!! The cutest Valentine card ever..

I first made these when we were living in Greece, where craft stores are hard to come by, so using photoshop to decorate our signs was easier than actually making them, but your kids might enjoy that part too..

*Idea originally from marthastewart.com..

Thursday Family Photo tip...

Love love love this portrait. i'm going to have to get all the grandkids in my fam to recreate this pic.

**Tip: neutrals (that aren't the exact same piece of clothing) are great, and avoiding any type of graphic/logo on your clothing is also a good idea.
